Lord Bill Brett
Patron

Bill Brett was always a United fan. One of his claims to fame at primary school in Heywood, Lancs, at the beginning of the 50’s, was his ability to name the 1948 Cup winning team. By the time he had gone through Radcliffe Tech in the mid 50’s he was into a routine of watching United at Old Tafford one Saturday and Bury at Gigg Lane the other. He vividly remembers standing in the rain, in the centre of Manchester, watching the bodies of the “Busby Babes” being brought back after the Munich disaster.
So supportive of United, he even played truant to watch them beat Anderlecht, and was caned for his pleasure, when one of his former masters from school, recognised him and spilt the beans. Bill is married to Janet and they have 2 daughters. He has a son and a daughter from a previous marriage. All through his working life, Bill has been at the forefront of the Labour movement and is presently the Director of the International Labour Office. He became a Patron because he realised, at the time of the Murdoch threat, that United was in danger of becoming a commodity, not a club.
