Phil is the Labour Member of Parliament for Oldham East & Saddleworth, as well as being the Deputy Leader of the House of Commons. He is married to Tracey and they have two sons.Brought up and educated in Nelson, Lancashire , he went to Manchester University , where he got a BA in Philosophy, in 1981. As well has having been a BBC Newsnight producer from 1988 to 1990, he was also a Channel 4 News Producer in 1990. He was then Head of Communications for GMB from 1991 to 1997. When invited to become a Patron of SU, Phil was delighted to accept, and has made every effort to recruit as many members of the House of Commons as he possibly could, to join us.
