The George Best Foundation

Well the SIXTY OF THE BEST night was a complete success, with thousands raised to benefit the George Best Foundation. We've got pictures here for those of you who missed it.

Many of you have asked about the commemorative programme... We are well into production right now and we are just waiting for an article from the Best family. We'll keep you posted on our progress.

In the meanwhile we have a new item that will benefit the Foundation. The MUSC Victoria (Oz) branch has specially commissioned a painting of Georgie that will soon be auctioned on eBay to raise money for the GBF.

"This original painting of George Best has been specially commisssioned for the George Best Foundation, by the Manchester United Supporters Club Of Victoria, Australia. Andrew Grech, a member of M.U.S.C.V, is one of Australia's leading artists. The work is oil on canvas, painted in May, 2006. The M.U.S.C.V has been established for 12 years and 947 passionate members who support the greatest football club in the world, Manchester United."

"This painting depicts the very essence of George Best, as he walks alone in his own right as an eternal hero to sports. A follower of none but a leading original that no man can ever replicate in the game of football. The artist, Andrew Grech, has captured the very essence in his brilliant colouration using oils and acrylics basrd on a 19th century technique which Andrew was taught by a Master european artist. This has enabled Grech to further develop this Jon era of art to capture colour to a translucence yet dramatic art which makes him unique in his own right. Andrew's artwork has been sought after by countless private collectors and corporate companies in Australia and internationally.

"It is a privilege and an honour to have painted Mr George Best. when I was asked I was frightened of not doing the man justice. But I quickly looked around at what is available and I knew that I needed to paint him in a way where emotions can be evoked, yet restoring a sense of humour and pride in this most talented man. I can say one thing, people like myself are classified as having a talent, yet people like Mr Best have a gift sent from the highest order in the heavens above, that's the difference."
