As you will have seen from the website, we now have 19 Patrons. The latest of these are Alex Stepney and Paddy Crerand. Both ex-players were more than happy to lend their names to our organisation and Paddy told me that he would be delighted to help in any way he could. I found this very promising, as there are some of our Patrons who don’t want to be active in publishing our cause. The ones’ who have expressed their willingness to become actively involved, will be used as and when needed. I am setting up interviews with both Alex and Paddy, for the Newsletter, in the not too distant future.
I have to thank Paul Brooks for his fantastic work, putting the Patrons Profiles on the website. He has done a wonderful job and should get a public vote of thanks for it.
Thanks also to Sam Roberts and to Sean Bones for their initial contacts with Alex and Paddy respectively, and for doing such good jobs in selling the idea of SU. What they had to say to the two men made it very easy for me to convince them both to join us as Patrons.
As discussed at the last Committee meeting, I am trying to get embroidered badges made, firstly for Anthony Farnell to wear on his boxing shorts, then perhaps for the rest of us to wear, on whatever seems most appropriate. The quotes for these to be made professionally are beginning to come through. When they are all in, I will come back to the Committee so that we can decide which firm to approach and with what quantities.
There isn’t much else to report at the moment, but I am sure that our Patrons will come to our aid, if and when, we need them.
