We MUST Be Ready
When the bough breaks, we cannot let United fall
No-one wanted the Glazers’ debt-ridden offer. But they went ahead anyway and we are now seeing the results. Thousands have stopped going to games altogether, attendances have fallen dramatically, club employees have lost their jobs, the atmosphere has deteriorated, and even the team is showing ill effects. Sir Matt must be turning in his grave.
At £650 million and rising, their debt and their dubious plan has plunged us into a financial abyss never before seen in sport. They’ve mortgaged our future on a plan that simply will not succeed.
Who will be there to pick up the pieces? Another trophy-hunting ‘billionaire’? Property developers? Rupert Murdoch? All these people care about is making money out of our club. And if (we believe when) Glazer fails, he will be forced to sell at a much lower price since he overpaid for the club. The financial vultures will be circling round Old Trafford awaiting the spoils.
This is why WE THE FANS must be prepared. Shareholders United and the NOT FOR $AL£ coalition ran a very powerful campaign against Glazer. It didn’t succeed. But we are now in a position to build on the heroic efforts that fans made to try and stop the takeover, with the added bonus of having maybe 2 or 3 years to plan and build for the day our club comes back on the market at a lower price. Our 32,000 members show that the passion and the belief is there among the fans, but naturally everyone wants to see a positive and viable plan.
» Well the plan is ready and the time is now right to launch it.
